Only Fools and Horses: Tyler Boyce actor’s life since The Green Green Grass from Call the Midwife to EastEnders stardom

The TV star once arrived in Poplar as a grieving father-to-be in a hard-hitting episode of the BBC period drama

Only Fools and Horses fans were left devastated when the last episode aired at Christmas 2003. However, due to the popularity of the BBC sitcom, Only Fools was granted a spin-off series based on Boycie, Marlene, and their teenage son Tyler.

The Green Green Grass followed the Boyce family fleeing Peckham to escape the Driscoll brothers and settle on a farm in Shropshire. The show was created and written by Only Fools’ John Sullivan and launched in 2005 running for four series and three Christmas specials before coming to an end in 2009.

The Only Fools spin-off saw Sue Holderness and John Challis reprise their roles as Marlene and Boycie, while actor Jack Doolan joined the famous duo as their on-screen son Tyler.

Originally the character of Tyler Boyce was introduced during The Jolly Boys’ Outing when Marlene pushes the baby through the market as Uncle Albert (Buster Merryfield) tells the tot one of his over-the-top war stories. Tyler is then seen as a toddler during the Miami Twice special.

Before landing the part in The Green Green Grass, television actor Jack already starred in popular shows with small roles in EastEnders and The Bill, but the spin-off series was his first major part.

Since then, he has gone from strength to strength as an actor, starring in films including Cockneys vs Zombies in 2012 and The Hatton Garden Job in 2014.

In 2019, Jack arrived in Call the Midwife playing the part of George Sharp during an episode of series 9.

The installment of the BBC period drama follows George and his wife Pam after they suffered the loss of their first baby and the dream of having a son or a daughter seemed unlikely until Pam fell pregnant.

When Pam goes into labour George suffered from Couvade and felt his own terrible stomach pains due to the grief and anxiety of losing a baby in hard-hitting scenes. After a dramatic few hours, the pair are over the moon to welcome a new daughter into the world and bond over their bundle of joy.

George is last seen in the episode holding his baby daughter with a nearly empty bottle as Pam smiles at them both happily.

Jack has also starred in various other series and movies including London Kills, White Gold, This is English, New Amsterdam, The Nan Movie, and Sisu.

The actor will now be known to US audiences and around the world after landing the role of Tommy in the third season of the hit Amazon Prime Video series, The Boys, which premiered earlier this year.

The series also stars Karl Urban, Jack Quaid, Anthony Starr, and Chace Crawford and follows a group of vigilantes who set out to take down corrupt superheroes.
