That ’70s Show Creator Mark Brazill Subtly Shaded Former Co-Star Danny Masterson For His Behaviour

That '70s Show Creator Mark Brazill was caught liking certain tweets related to Danny Masterson.

While appearing on That 70s Show was great for Topher Grace, Mila Kunis, and Ashton Kutcher’s career, other cast members didn’t have the same luck. A couple of years ago, Danny Masterson, who played Steven Hyde throughout the show’s eight seasons, faced grave sexual assault allegations.

These allegations, along with a three-year-long trial, have greatly affected Danny Masterson’s net worth and career. The actor hasn’t appeared in any new movies or TV shows since 2017. His last project was The Ranch, from which he was abruptly fired once the first allegations against him were made known to the public.

In addition to this, Masterson is the only original cast member not to return for Netflix’s That 90s Show. Some fans even speculated that the allegations against Masterson were the reason why That 70s Show was removed from Netflix in 2020.

Now that Masterson has been found guilty and faces up to 30 years in prison, Mark Brazill, That 70s Show’s creator, indirectly threw shade at Masterson’s behavior.

Danny Masterson’s Career Took a Turn for the Worse After Grave Allegations Where Made Against Him in 2017

After That 70s Show came to an end back in 2006, Danny Masterson managed to continue working and have a successful acting career. According to IMDb, Masterson has 68 acting credits under his belt, including movies such as The Bridge to Nowhere and The Chicago 8.

Then, in 2016, Masterson landed one of the starring roles in Netflix’s sitcom The Ranch alongside Sam Elliott, his That 70s Show co-star Ashton Kutcher, and Elisha Cuthbert. However, in 2017 his character was written out of the series after Masterson was involved in a scandal due to rape and assault allegations from five women against the actor. Soon enough, his career took a turn for the worst.

Two years after the first allegations were made, four of the women filed a lawsuit against Masterson and the Church of Scientology, which the actor is a member of, for invading their privacy and attempting to obstruct justice after they reported the actor for rape.

In 2020, Danny Masterson was arrested and charged with three counts of rape, which happened between 2001 and 2003. Since then, the actor has been dealing with court proceedings. Although a new trial was set for March of this year, the actor was set free after paying a $3.3 million bail.

Between April and May of this year, a new trial against Danny Masterson was held in Los Angeles. Ultimately, the actor was convicted of two of the three counts of forcible rape on May 31st. The jury was hung 8–4 in favor of conviction on the third charge.

Now, the actor is incarcerated at the Men’s Central Jail in Los Angeles after he was remanded to custody without bail until sentencing. No sentencing date has been set as of today, but a hearing was set for August 2023. Masterson faces up to 30 years to life in prison for his crimes.

While he awaits sentencing following his rape conviction, Masterson will be kept in “administrative segregation” for his safety. TMZ reported that the That 70s Show star is being kept away from the general population at the Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail.

According to the outlet, citing law enforcement sources, “administrative segregation” is the same unit where NFL star O.J. Simpson and Death Row Records co-founder Suge Knight were kept during their respective cases.

The Creator of That 70s Show Subtly Shaded Danny Masterson’s Behavior Following His Sexual Assault Trial

When the first allegations of sexual assault against Danny Masterson became public, Topher Grace was the only That 70s Show cast member to directly address the scandal.

“You know, I hesitate to say that I never saw any of that behavior because I feel like it sounds like I’m defending him, but the truth is I never saw any of that stuff,” the actor who played Eric Forman told The Hollywood Reporter in 2018. “I was, of that cast, the most boring. So when it came to going out after the show and partying, I just was boring.”

Other cast members, like Laura Prepon, Mila Kunis, and Wilmer Valderrama, have yet to comment on the allegations against Masterson or his current conviction. Despite this, it was clear that Masterson no longer had ties with the creator of That 70s Show. After all, he was the only original cast member who wasn’t invited to appear in Netflix’s That 90s Show.

Once the show came out, his character, Hyde, was not mentioned at all and was even excluded from a flashback scene pulled from the original show. Masterson showed his support for the show, “This is literally the dopest thing I’ve heard in a decade,” he wrote via Instagram before praising Kurtwood Smith and Debra Jo Rupp. He also used this opportunity to shade on the show’s creators and producers “So f—king excited for @therealkurtwoodsmith and @debrajorupp two of the great humans and greatest actors on this planet. Can’t wait to watch and laugh. Same creators/writers/producers as 70s.”

While he never said anything about Masterson’s case, the creator of That 70s Show subtly shaded the actor’s behavior by “liking,” and later un-“liking,” a tweet that stated that Steven Hyde would punch his real-life self. The creator of the series also liked a tweet that read: “Danny masterson deserves to rot for the horrible way he treated and silenced women who were brave enough to speak out against his abuse. if you are out there, i believe you. i see you. i am here for you.”
