Eric Forman’s 10 Best Quotes from That ’70s Show

Topher Grace played the role of Eric Forman on That '70s Show and left us with some iconic lines of dialogue.

The cast of That ’70s Show has been in the news a lot lately, but not necessarily for the most pleasant things. So we will just leave that alone and focus more on something more humorous: Topher Grace’s performance as the show’s lead character, Eric Forman, a character who, at his heart, is a nice guy but is also fused with the wise-cracking and sarcasm he inherits from his father Red. He’s the perfect lead for a sitcom; he makes you laugh, and when it’s time to be heartwarming, his charisma creeps up on you. After eight seasons of That ’70s Show from 1998 to 2006 hit the airwaves, Eric had a lot of memorable one-liners. Let’s take a look at 10 of them right now.

10. “Holy mother of Skywalker.”

In season seven, Eric’s nerd mentality is on full display. Sometimes it works for him, and sometimes it backfires. You can decide here in this scene. In the episode, Eric is getting ready to leave for Africa. His longtime girlfriend, Jackie, wants to give him a bit of a parting gift as she won’t see him for a while. She dresses up as Princess Leia from Star Wars. Eric’s reaction to his girlfriend is the quote being mentioned here. But as usual, things go south for Eric. By the end of the episodes, he ends up in his driveway in his underwear and a Storm Trooper helmet.

9. “Mmm bacon”

The season premiere of season six kicks off with Eric’s dad, Red, on a diet. Red had suffered a heart attack on the show and could only eat ham. Eric teases his father at a point in the episode where he flaunts that he can eat bacon and Red can’t. Insult is added to injury as Kitty gives Eric a waffle breakfast in hopes that he will stay home from college to help out. The father and son stand-off is a funny moment that proves that the two are the same chip off the old block, despite one being a grumpy old man and the other being a dim-witted teenager.

8. “There are a lot of Amish people, but they never raised a barn”

On season three, episode 16 of That ’70s Show, Eric, Fez, and Hyde are all hanging out in the basement when Kelso storms in with a huge issue. To keep it PG-rated here, let’s just say he was making out with new lover Pam Macy, and, well, all systems weren’t a-go. As he tells his friends this, Hyde and Eric try to help Fez understand Kelso’s issue with some funny and subliminal messages. To cap off the scene, Eric drops this line to help Fez fully understand what the dilemma was.

7. “I know that when I go to the hospital, I like to not die.”

In an episode where Eric goes to work with his mom, Kitty. He gets to see her in her element outside of being a sweet, loving housewife. She’s a hospital nurse who seems to be just as perky as she is at home. But Eric also recognizes the flaws of working in his mom’s line of work. He makes it a point to mention this to his mom and other staff members when they are discussing the happenings that go on at work, one of which is patients dying.

6. “I love cake”

Eric could sometimes become the master of saying the wrong thing at the wrong time. It’s burned him a few times in the series, and in season two, episode seven of the show, it nearly cost him big time. Donna tells Eric that she loves him, and in true male fashion, sometimes we panic. Eric’s response to Donna is “I love cake,”, thus leading to a big fight between the two. What adds to the humor of this delivery is how the rest of the group responds once Eric tells them during a hangout session in the basement.

5. “Sticks and stones may break my bones, but Kelso nailed your sister.”

Eric could come up with the perfect digs at his buddies from time to time. Despite his nerdy appearance, he can drop a diss on someone, which could be the end all be all. Nothing is better than bringing someone’s sister into the mix, as in season seven, episode 10, when Kelso begins to date Hyde’s long-lost half sister, Angie. The digs at Hyde from Eric are a long time coming, as Hyde is usually the biggest wisecracker of the bunch and is always the first to call someone on an embarrassing issue. So when Kelso sweeps Angie’s feet off her feet, Eric is the first to make jokes.

4. “Well, it’s mainly for survival. But I also enjoy the fruity taste.”

By season five, specifically episode 17, Red and Eric are at odds with one another due to Red’s disagreement with the fact that Eric and Donna are engaged. In a scene that takes place in the kitchen of the Forman home, Red asks Eric what he’s doing while he’s just sitting there eating breakfast in a tone that shows that he is still clearly upset with his son. Eric delivers this sarcastic line prior to him and his father getting into an argument over the hubcap on the car that broke off the night before.

3. “You already have such a career as a whore”

There are a lot of snarky jabs between brother and sister, Eric and Laurie. One of the most memorable digs from Eric to his sister is in season three, episode seven, when Laurie is having trouble during her gig as a babysitter. Laurie is having problems putting the baby down to sleep and begins to contemplate whether she would ever want to have children in the first place. Without missing a beat, Eric reminds her of the great career trajectory she already seems to be on.

2. “And I wish I was an octopus, so I could put eight feet in eight different asses.”

The tables turn in this scene. Normally, Red Forman dishes out sarcastic comments about his son and his friends and their dumb decisions. However, Red’s stress levels need to come down a bit. So the two switch personalities to help one another out. Red dumbs down his foul mouth and takes on a love of Star Wars, while Eric tries some Red Forman one-liners on for size and delivers this one among others to give his dad a taste of his own medicine.

1. “God, what did you have for breakfast this morning? Carnation Instant B*tch?”

Eric and Donna were the best of the best in terms of television couples. But in a turn of events, they would eventually break up and take jabs at one another, tearing one another down. It was rough to see at times, and at other times it was quite funny. In a scene from season four, episode five, Eric gives Fez his two cents on an outlandish shirt he’s wearing, which is then followed up with a rebuttal from Donna. But the nail in the coffin for the dispute is Eric’s comments about what she had for breakfast that morning. The former pair really knew how to go after one another, which is also what made them a great couple because they both made a great team of sarcastic lovers.
